Netflix releases 1.5 hour documentary The Social Dilemma as Free

The Social Dilemma, which is a compelling documentary that unveils the secrets behind social media applications, is now available on YouTube.

Netflix likes to feature some of its content on YouTube. Normally, you can only watch Netflix content on the platform itself. However, our favorite streamer sometimes releases full features on YouTube and makes them public. This popular documentary is an example of this. After being watched a lot and received well, The Social Dilemma is now fully featured on YouTube. You can watch the documentary without having to be a Netflix subscriber. Be sure to act quickly though, as the documentary is going to leave YouTube on September 30th, 2021.

We all know that social media can be bad for our mental and physical health. Despite the numerous advantages such as fast communication, citizen journalism, and mobilizing social movements, social media platforms polarize people and affect their lives more than we can imagine. The Social Dilemma shows us how the tech giants lure people to their phones and make them use the platforms incessantly. There’s much more than you can imagine to the background of everything that’s going on.

The Social Dilemma made its way to Netflix on September 9th, 2020. Being a Sundance documentary, this Emmy-nominated production stands on a 7,6 IMDb rating, which is not bad at all. Many viewers think that it’s worth watching, however, some of them find the dramatization a bit cheap. Still, The Social Dilemma is clearly a thought-provoking documentary in which you can see a part of yourself. It focuses on the effect of social media on us, humans, after all.

The good thing is the documentary features some interviews with the best people in the field. Nobody knows how social media control people better than the creators of it. Justin Rosenstein, who is the co-inventor of the famous “Like” button of Facebook; Tim Kendall, who was the President of Pinterest and a high-level director at Facebook; Cathy O’Neil, who’s the author of Weapons of Math Destruction; Rashida Richardson, who’s a director at the AI Now Institute, are featured in The Social Dilemma. They shed light on the business models of social media platforms, which try everything to keep people hooked. They are the original creators of the whole thing, after all.
