Netflix to Bring in Selena Gomez Starrer Oscars Frontrunner to Its Shelves This November
Netflix is adding more gems to its library. This time, it is the Selena Gomez-led musical that has been the talk of the town for months since its premiere. The songstress has long been spreading her wings in both acting and music. But it was only after she blended the two that she caught the attention of the Academy, the highest honor in the film industry.
With all the Oscars buzz and the possibility of Selena Gomez potentially being in the running for Best Supporting Actress, Netflix is bringing this very film to its impressive library.

Later this month, Netflix will be adding this year’s biggest Oscar contender, Emilia Pérez, to its library. The musical crime comedy, based on Jacques Audiard’s opera of the same name, stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, Mark Ivanir, and Édgar Ramírez. Netflix will be adding the critically successful movie to its collection on November 13. The film premiered on May 18, 2024, at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, and it quickly earned a spot in the race for the Palme d'Or in the main competition.
At Cannes, the movie won the Jury Prize, and its powerhouse female ensemble walked away with the Best Actress award. Shortly after Emilia Pérez made its debut, Netflix outbid multiple studios and locked down the film’s distribution rights for $8 million. But while Gomez’s performance in Emilia Pérez was already looking like an Oscar frontrunner, she was not the only star with her eye on the prize.
There were also talks about two other pop stars, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, who could be in the awards mix as well. Recently, Gomez gave a sweet shout-out to her peers.
Selena Gomez is happy for her fellow pop stars
Last month, Selena Gomez graced the red carpet at the Emilia Pérez premiere in Los Angeles, where the ‘Calm Down’ artist could not help but gush about how "proud" she is of her fellow pop queens, like Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga. When asked to name her all-time favorite musical, Gomez had a little something to say about the upcoming Wicked- "I don't know if I have one of all time, I'm just excited to see Ariana's movie."

Ariana Grande’s musical fantasy, Wicked, has yet to be released. However, Lady Gaga’s psychological thriller Joker: Folie à Deux fell flat with both critics and audiences earlier this year. While the musical world’s brightest stars are certainly making their mark on the acting scene, it is yet to be seen which of them will take home most awards this time around.
