Zack Snyder’s ‘Star Wars’ Rival ‘Rebel Moon’ Will Be Set in the Same Universe as His This Hit Flick
Standing apart in the wide field of content that is Hollywood is indeed a feat in itself. However, getting an entire fleet of fans to rally behind you despite being snubbed by the studio is a rarity. Zack Snyder installed himself as a director who instilled a unique cinematic and unexpected take on Superman with Henry Cavill. The filmmaker commanded such an impressive fan following that Netflix was hell-bent on not letting it pass. Years after releasing the Army of the Dead, he is returning to the streaming giant with Rebel Moon.
Nearly a month to the release of his two-part space opera, an interesting update has popped up that is binding Snyder’s fate to the streamer.

Coming in as a reprieve for audiences all over, Army of the Dead came in with Dave Bautista during the peak pandemic. The zombie-thriller marked the first instance of Zack Snyder teaming up with Netflix, which has now resulted in a fruitful unison. The director’s $166 million budget two-part space extravaganza directly takes on and one-ups Star Wars with its ‘mature take’. In the latest issue of Total Film (via Games Radar), Snyder admitted that both of his Netflix franchises share the same universe.
Revealing two animated spin-offs to the zombie heist, the director revealed his plans for a tie-up. “Army of the Dead has a pretty vast mythology that never made it into the movie,” Snyder added. Moreover, a character from the same was to open a portal and enter into the Rebel Moon universe. Regardless, the space outing serves some crossovers in the form of an animatic from one popping up as a live character in the upcoming flick.
In a galaxy far, far away, here is how Snyder plans to segregate his movie from the wider Star Wars.
Once pitched to be canon to Star Wars, Netflix is having a field day with its galaxy
Rebel Moon could have never seen the light of the day had Netflix not intervened. The movie was Snyder’s initial pitch to George Lucas for adaptation into Star Wars but stood rejected for being too mature. Interestingly, that very curse set out to be its boon as the streamer rejoiced and gave the director full freedom to go all out with a no-holds-barred vision.

Coming in with uncensored violence, it is precisely how the visual fest intends to stand apart from Disney’s franchise. Additionally, one characteristic approach to the all-powerful lightsaber has been modified. Snyder opts for a sword that only, when required, goes into its full laser mode. Despite their similarities, Rebel Moon is destined to have all but grit and rebellion written all over it.
