Zack Snyder’s Netflix Extravaganza, ‘Rebel Moon’, Will Have More Content Apart From The Flick
In a world full of content, creating one that commands mention years later is quite a feat. Among the stalwarts who have pioneered such art of intricate storytelling, Christopher Nolan, Dennis Villeneuve, and Martin Scorcese are some with a long list of projects. Coming in between them is Zack Snyder, whose 2013’s Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill stands relevant even today. Now, as he moves ahead with his next big project – Rebel Moon for Netflix, plans are afoot to seal its legacy.
The director, renowned for his detailed and cinematic photographic styles, is churning out more than just a two-part movie for the streaming giant.

A lovechild of Star Wars and Dune, Rebel Moon is a rebel on its own. In his ambitious attempt to rival George Lucas’ mega-franchise, Zack Snyder is leaving no stone unturned. The two-part space opera will be supplemented by an animated series as well as a narrative podcast. In an interview for Total Film’s latest issue (via GamesRadar+), the director chalked out his plans for the projects to be essentially prequels to the main storyline.
Snyder said that the main aim of the aforementioned will be to help fans “understand the vastness of the mythology that we’ve been working on.” The visual extravaganza will feature Sofia Boutella’s Kora as the lead. Meanwhile, the plot is not unlike Star Wars, where Kora assembles warriors from the edge of the galaxy to beat down a tyrannical galactic empire. The movie takes inspiration from mainstream movies as well as Heavy Metal magazines.
It might not feel discernible on the surface, but Snyder’s project in many ways differs from the Darth Vader saga.

Interestingly, Rebel Moon is a Star Wars outcast. The movie was part of Snyder’s initial pitch to George Lucas, which got rejected before leaving Netflix smitten. With a $166 million budget, the zealous two-part project is the director attracting his loyal fans over to a universe of his own. Moreover, featuring lightsabers that also act as swords, the movie also differs from mainstream Star Wars in its gritty take and visual violence.
The very R-rated idea that caused Disney to pass on the project is Netflix’s selling point. Furthermore, Rebel Moon’s characters do not aspire to be relatable to the main protagonists or antagonists of the Disney universe. Rather, Snyder’s take aligns more with Star Wars’ Andor and Rogue One storylines. Regardless, in every possible way, it has the scope to become the next base for both Star Wars fans as well as newcomers to the genre.
