“You can’t continue to give people what they’re expecting,” Replies Director Anthony Byrne to ‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 6 Criticism
Very few shows have been able to muster the love and support of fans to the extent that Peaky Blinders has. The show is one of the most popular and watched shows of the 21st century. People love it for its dark setting, high-paced narrative, and obviously the man himself, Tommy Shelby. However, Peaky Blinders is receiving some criticism for its season 6, the final season.
In a recent interview, the show’s director, Anthony Byrne recently discussed the accusation and gave his explanation while hinting that the new season will eventually blow fans’ minds.

Is Peaky Blinders season 6 going too slow?
The BBC’s hit crime drama set in the early 1920s instantly resonated with fans upon its initial release in 2013. Its popularity soared to uncharted heights, with its season five ending in a cliffhanger that troubled the most intelligent of beings.
And when the sixth and final season aired, people had extremely high expectations for the show. The brilliant first episode rightfully delivered this expectation.
However, the subsequent episodes have been categorized as dull by the fans. This is somewhat true if you liked all the blood and razors being used in the show.
This criticism and accusation reached director Anthony Byrne who did his best to assure fans to be patient and have faith in the rest of the season. Anthony worked on both seasons 5 and 6 of the show. And will be directing the last three episodes of the final season too.
Anthony Byrne’s comments
While talking to RadioTimes about the show’s alleged slow pace and lack of action, Anthony said, “you can’t continue to give people what they’re expecting”
One of the biggest disappointments that people expressed was in episode three when Arthur refuses to even let someone hit Stephen Graham‘s, Hayden Stagg. About this issue, Anthony explains that there is an element where people want the same things as before.

But he goes on to explain that the sixth season is much darker and a deeper dive into Tommy Shelby’s inner self. The sixth season is to understand where Tommy’s limits end. And it feels like we are approaching it.
“Season 4 was that. Season 4 was a gangster season with the Italians and the Peakys. There was a lot of gangster stuff and guns and all of that,” said the director while explaining how the sixth has evolved to be much darker.

However, now that we are right in the middle of the shows last season, we should expect some big incidents. In fact, the fourth episode, Sapphire, is turning out to be an integral one.
What do you think about the last season of Peaky Blinders? Will it be the worthy end to the high-paced blood-soaked previous season or not? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
