Wolfgang Stegemann Explains One of the Most Iconic Fight Scenes From ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 Volume 2

The Witcher Season 3 Volume 2 concluded its run a while ago. Perhaps one of the most awaited yet dreaded seasons, Volume 2 of Season 3 was anything but ordinary. It was also the final time the world saw Henry Cavill as the Geralt of Rivia. Both the volumes of season 3 featured some incredible scenes featuring Cavill, and as the internet aptly puts it, “he ate and left no crumb.Ever wondered what goes on behind such a scene? Stunt coordinator Wolfgang Stegemann reveals the same. 

Henry Cavill left no stone unturned to make his final outing as the Geralt a huge one. Apart from working incredibly hard as the character, he even assisted the stunt coordinator on multiple scenes. Not long ago, Netflix took to Twitter sharing Geralt and Vilgefortz’s iconic fight scene, where Wolfgang Stegemann explained how he worked out the scene.

Stegemann started off by revealing that the fight scene is one of the most important fight scenes from the novels. Pausing between various moments of the fight, Stegemann continued how both the actors had to be super precise and have the right dynamic and distance. He compared shooting the fight scenes to what he and Cavill called “composing a symphony.

Stegemann moved on to explain the individual aspects of both the characters from the fight scene. Starting off with Mahesh Jadu, who plays Vilgefortz, the director revealed that the actor had to fight with a staff. Interestingly, there were times when he shot with just his hands, and visual effects were used to place the staff where and when he wanted it.

On the other hand, the Enola Holmes star, who had a sword at all times, had to pretend to fight against a weapon that was not there. Unsurprisingly, as hard as the scene was, Stegemann admitted that Cavill delivered every bit of the scene perfectly. However, apart from being incredibly important, the fight scene was also a huge shocker for the fans.

We are no strangers to the legacy of the Geralt of Rivia. He is perhaps one of the most skilled swordsmen in the entire show. Throughout the three seasons, Geralt manages to pull off some of the most difficult fight scenes. However, his fight against Vilgefortz was unlike we have ever witnessed.

As shocking as it sounds, the Geralt is unable to defeat Vilgefortz during their final dual. It was one of the rare battles where he was not even gets close to dominating the fight, let alone winning it. The scene came as a huge shocker for the fanbase seeing Cavill struggle in his last fight as the Geralt.
