With ‘The Witcher’ Season 4 in Motion, Here’s What Fans Would Have Missed if the Show Ended After Season 1
The Witcher may have gained nothing but hype since it began back in 2019. But it looks like that may be finally coming to an end. After one amazing season, fans have gotten two other seasons that completely strayed from the book it is based on. Following the release, the third season was deemed one of the worst seasons, with the 5th episode garnering a lot of mixed reactions. Additionally, the fanbase has been unsettled ever since Henry Cavill’s announcement that he would not be returning for the fourth season of the franchise. The revelation understandably left fans and followers of the series feeling less than excited about the actor’s last season.
The idea of continuing the series felt wrong to many fans of the actor. And though it may have been a good idea, it could not work as the show centered on the actor. But while some fans of the series may feel it has run its course, there is a lot that would have been missed out on the storyline if the directors had decided to let it end with Cavill after season one only.

The Witcher may have given its fans everything they hoped for in the first season, but since then, the series has been a miss. With two disappointing seasons, it is not surprising that some fan feels as though the show has been dragged on for absolutely no reason. However, without the other 2 seasons, fans would have not gotten the whole story. Here is what fans would have missed if the show ended after the first season.
1) Ciri’s Character Arc
While season 2 barely had any redeemable points, season 3 offered fans the promise of a different side to Freya Allan’s character Ciri. From the orphan child with no one except her grandparents, to becoming one of the main characters of the show, the character development fans witnessed has been insane.
The season 3 finale had the audience hooked, as the character underwent a transformation and even took up a different name. Throughout the series, Ciri is considered one of the most powerful characters and might even be the one who fulfills the ancient prophecy. Season 1 may have given fans a lost princess, but over the last two seasons, she has become strong mentally and physically. But the third season held the biggest surprise for Ciri and her fans as it followed her journey instead of Geralt. If the show had ended, fans would have been stuck just barely scratching the surface of the character.
2) The addition of The Rats
Anyone who is familiar with Andrzej Sapkowski’s riveting The Witcher books needs no introduction to the gang of unruly teenagers, but their Netflix adaptations seem a little more docile. The group of misfits was introduced in the third season and added to Ciri’s growing storyline. While they may have caused a few messes, and a lot of drama and left a few viewers at the edge of their sets, they also ended up saving Ciri from her kidnappers and gave her a safe space.
Fans will only learn more about the group after The Witcher Season 4 releases. However, most lovers of the novels will be wary of these intruders as they already know what the next season will have in store. But no one can deny that the group brought suspense with their last-minute entry.
3) 3 Seasons of Henry Cavill as Geralt and entry of Liam Hemsworth
While it may be official that Henry Cavill is not returning to The Witcher, the actor managed to give his fans 3 incredible seasons as the White Wolf. But as the audience stepped into the next era of Geralt, there seemed to be a little more resistance than last time, which could be the reason behind this season’s terrible ratings.

In October of last year, it was announced that Liam Hemsworth would be taking up the iconic role of Geralt of Rivera. While fans may not have been the happiest, the actor seems to be putting his best foot forward as he braces to fill Superman’s shoes. While the quality of the series and the accuracy of the books may have dropped over time, it is hard to deny that the series is not trying hard to keep the show alive. Fans have not come around to the idea of a new Geralt yet, but hopefully, The Last Song actor can live up to expectations.
