The Witcher season 3 might have been rough, but it seems like the directors have a plan to get things back on track for season 4. Even though there were a lot of positives in the season, there were just as many problems. Viewers had issues with the storyline and the series once again drifting a little too far from the novel by Andrzej Sapkowski. While it seems like the show has been on a slight downward spiral since its first season, the creators may have another shot to fix their mistakes.

It may be true that the third season had one of the worst episodes of the series, but that could also be chalked up to fan reactions to Henry Cavill‘s departure from the show. But with the actor making his way out of the franchise, here’s what we know about The Witcher season 4 release date, trailer, and the plans creators have in store.

The Witcher season 3 was not very well received, but it still hyped up viewers for the next season. Earlier this year, it was announced that the fourth season was officially underway. But a certain announcement from last year still rang in the ears of all the fans and left a burning question in the back of everybody’s minds. It was about Henry Cavill’s departure from the show.

However, since it was announced that Henry Cavill would not return, the directors of the series found a way to continue Geralt’s story. Last year, it was revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that the show would continue without Cavill as the showrunner Lauren Hissrish already had a seven-season plan in store. It was also revealed that Cavill was initially expected to be in all the seasons, but fate did not have it that way. However, the series ended up finding its star later that very month.

While many fans found the news hard to swallow, it came in very similar packaging to our previous star. But even with the confirmation of season 4, the question still remained: Would the viewers love the new Geralt of Rivia as much as the previous one?

Is Liam Hemsworth going to be Geralt?

With Cavill’s departure, soon the news of the Hunger Games actor, Liam Hemsworth, filling the shoes of Cavill came in. And it seems like he is gearing up for the role. But sadly for the actor, fans still want to see only one Geralt. However, The Last Song actor took to his Instagram to share that he was “truly excited” to be filling the Man of Steel actor’s boots. Even recently, show producer Tomek Baginski revealed how the transition from Cavill to Hemsworth will be seen in the show.

There is no doubt that Hemsworth promises fans a new perspective to the audience and has also begun preparing for his role. Even Geralt’s beloved bard, Jaskier aka Joey Batey, also revealed how he had run through all six of the books in hopes of getting himself ready for the show. It looks like the actor might be on the right path by following Cavill’s love for the books.

But while the actor continues his preparations, fans have still not come around to there being a new Geralt. Hopefully, that will be subject to change once the fourth season comes out. However, there still seems to be a long way to go before fans will get the official trailer, and as for the release date, that may take a little more time.

When is the Witcher 4 release date?

As The Witcher is one of the most popular series on Netflix, it came as a surprise that the streaming giant was only planning on releasing the next season sometime in 2025. Even though it had been revealed that Lauren Hissrish had plans for seven seasons, the official announcement as to when season 4 will be released is not out yet. However, it has been revealed that filming for the series will begin in 2024, but there is silence on the release front.

But from what fans have seen from the third season, it is evident that a lot of stories will be coming to light. From Ciri’s new character arc to the introduction of The Rats, who are the most recent intruders, fans have a lot to look forward to. However, they might face a delay in filming due to script issues to the ongoing double strike in Hollywood. Thankfully, it was announced that the script was completed in May of this year. But with production being halted until the next year, it comes as no surprise that fans will have to wait almost two years to get the fourth season of the franchise.
