The Sussex couple has become more like the ‘Success-es’ couple as their back-to-back winning streak continues in all aspects. Let it be the tell-all memoir by Prince Harry or the multi-million Netflix docuseries that sent shockwaves worldwide. All of their projects had been a big win for the couple. Nonetheless, in terms of legal actions and their ramifications, the Duchess, Meghan Markle has crushed all trenchant claims against her by one of her own, Samantha Markle. 

It is no secret that both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had to let go of some significant family ties as soon as they took their wedding nuptials. However, while Prince Harry mostly had to go through an emotional rollercoaster, Meghan Markle had to get herself through some serious court cases against her family members. A few months ago, her half-sister, Samantha Markle, had filed a defamation case against the Duchess, which became the subject of heavy scrutiny. 

Nonetheless, as is the custom, good triumphs over evil and so did Meghan over the plaintiff. The legal case the Florida high court took up was duly dismissed, with the Duchess winning the case. As reported by The Daily Beast, District Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell affirmed, “As a reasonable listener would understand it, the defendant merely expresses an opinion about her childhood and her relationship with her half-siblings.” 

Thus, in light of the same, someone cannot be sued over merely expressing an opinion that could not be proved false in the first place. Therefore, the court found Samantha Markle’s claims “not objectively verifiable”. 

Why had Samantha Markle sued Meghan Markle?

A few months ago, the plaintiff took to the US court claiming that the Duchess had exposed her to extreme “humiliation, shame and hatred on a worldwide scale.” However, all Markle did as the court itself proclaimed was recall some experiences from childhood with her sister. 

The plaintiff’s primary reason for aggression was the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview of Harry and Meghan post the Megxit. Following the stirring discussions between the royals and the host, Samantha Markle claimed her sister had “falsely and maliciously” stated facts that counted for her defamation.
