Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith arrived for the premiere of Emancipation in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The couple stepped on the red carpet for the first time since the Oscar altercations earlier this year. Bad Moms star looked beautiful in a white gown, holding her husband’s arm as they posed for the camera.

The 54-year-old star was wearing a maroon three-piece suit and kissed Jada on the head during the event. The whole family joined him at the event, including children Trey, Jaden and Willow, to show their support. Moreover, the crush of photographers cheered the Suicide Squad star as it hasn’t been easy to make a comeback in the industry.

At the premiere Smith talked with The Hollywood Reporter and revealed the reason behind doing this film. He stated that the movie can be a potential tool to convey society for what people have suffered in the past.

“I thought it would be a necessary reminder of some of the roads we had gone down as a country in the past to potentially avert any of those similar paths,” explained the Aladdin star.

Based on true events, Emancipation dwells on the journey of a slave named Peter, who flees from his plantation in search of his family. Unknown to the upcoming revolution, he joins the Union Army where he is examined and pictures of his fatally whipped back go viral. The cast members alongside Smith include Ben Foster, Charmaine Bingwa, Steven Ogg, Mustafa Shakir, and Timothy Hutton.
