Why is Henry Cavill Leaving ‘The Witcher?’ How Did Netflix Replace Him With Liam Hemsworth?
Nothing is certain in The Witcher world, is it? While the time-traveling elf, Avallac’h from Blood Origin (the prequel series) may have profound answers to the whys and hows surrounding the Netflix fantasy series, none of the earthlings perhaps know an accurate answer to these questions. However, what we can do is join the Wild Hunt to pursue a few potential answers.
Ever since the Henry Cavill starrer made its debut, its vast and ambiguous world plunged viewers into a rich and immersive realm filled with monsters, magic, and political intrigue. And at the center of it, all stood Cavill’s Geralt with his chiseled body, silver locks, and an intensive gaze. He single-handedly lured millions of fans into watching the Netflix fantasy series, only to leave the show later on. But why, exactly?

The Witcher Season 3 marks the very last endeavors of the British actor. Liam Hemsworth will henceforth be taking up “the mantle of the White Wolf.” And even though the reason behind this was never officially clarified, many fans assumed Cavill wanted to focus on other potential projects. One among many others was DCU’s Superman. His future films, such as Argylle may also have hindered him from giving time to this series. But as sad as it was, Cavill also lost Superman with James Gunn taking over DCU’s future.
Later on, a deeper emphasis on his interviews with various media outlets revealed that Cavill left the show because he and the showrunners “did not see eye to eye.” In other words, the showrunners did not respect the source enough to hold Cavill back as the titular character. The 40-year-old had made it very clear that he wanted a more diverse and book-curated Geralt. And as the third season unwrapped itself, fans did notice a digression from the Britisher’s character. Not only this, but reports also said that the British actor wanted to be true to Sapkowski’s work, which, as fans know, has been a major struggle for writer Lauren Hisssirich. With so many explanations on the table, the exact reason for his departure is not confirmed by Cavill.
With Cavill’s departure, news soon came out with Liam Hemsworth taking the lead forward as the next Witcher. But how exactly is Liam Hemsworth eyeing to take the lore forward?
How will Liam Hemsworth replace Cavill in season 4?
While there is no way anyone can copy down the Enola Holmes actor’s brilliance, it is possible for Hemsworth to adapt to the character in his own striking way. Furthermore, although we have a few speculations on how Hemsworth’s Geralt can perhaps replace Cavill, nothing is sure. In the first volume of The Witcher season 3, released on 29 June, we did hear Cavill’s Geralt swear that he would protect his Child Surprise even if it costs him his life.

One must also note that Netflix did not just randomly pick up Hemsworth as their new White Wolf. They apparently went back and looked at the 2018 candidates for the position, and thus came Hemsworth’s name in the picture. Although there was no audition process, Netflix cast the Hunger Games actor based on his 2018 auditions for the role.

However, Hemsworth was not the only potential candidate. We recently found out that Eamon Farren, currently playing Cahir Mawr was also contending for the position. But to his shock, Chris Hemsworth’s brother bagged the position.
