There is a war going on between the Sussexes and Britain’s royal family. Despite being at odds with the senior members for over three years, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle loved one person dearly, and that was the late Queen Elizabeth. The Duchess has always spoken highly about her significant other’s grandmother. She also hailed her as the shining example of female leadership.

The matriarch reciprocated the warmth and adulation. There are a handful of pictures of the two sharing giggles and smiles during royal engagements. However, the relationship between the former American actress and the Queen did not start on a bright note. The Duchess did not get any time to prepare herself as she got to know about the meeting just a couple of minutes before. Amongst other things, Meghan Markle was most concerned about her outfit.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had an impromptu meeting with the late Queen

In October 2016, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were heading to the Royal Lodge for lunch with Sarah Ferguson. The couple was in the car when they received the news of Queen Elizabeth stopping at the estate while going back to the Palace from the church. The late royal looked dazzling in a bright-colored dress and a matching hat. However, her stunning outfit gave a complex to the Sussex royals as they were wearing casual attires. 

“I could see Meg regretting her jeans and black sweater. I was also regretting my shabby trousers. We didn’t plan, I wanted to tell granny, but she was busy asking about Meg’s visit,” Prince Harry mentioned in his book as quoted by InStyle. 

Detailing the episode further, the Duke wrote that the meeting took place for about twenty minutes and it was a pleasant experience. Queen was happy meeting Meghan Markle as, while departing, she locked eyes with the actress and gave her a soothing smile. Meanwhile, in their docuseries, the royal couple had highlighted how Markle was taken aback by the idea of curtsying to Prince Harry’s grandmother.
