If nothing else, The Witcher Season 3 has so far been a season of revelation, bonding, confessions, and love mirth to make its otherwise gory and heartless atmosphere a little more bearable. With plotlines finally beginning to coalesce, fans not only meet new characters but also fall in love with a few of them. Moreover, viewers also get to delve deeper into character histories, including that of Henry Cavill’s Geralt and his relationship with Visenna.
Who exactly is Visenna in The Witcher? And why is everyone talking about her suddenly? Well, if you are a hardcore fan of Andrzej Sapkowski’s universe, you might know her very well. But if you have heard the name just in the series, you might need to brush up on your memory a little. So in episode 3 of the third season, Cavill’s White Wolf takes Teryn, who believes herself to be Princess Cirilla of Cintra. And towards the end of the episode, ‘Reunion,’ Anika tells Geralt the story of the mysterious sorceress.

Well, that only makes Geralt shed a tear or two, but we get to know that Visenna is Geralt’s actual mother. And even though she had little physical presence in the books and none in the series, she impacted her son’s life beyond one can imagine. Perhaps she wrote the Destiny of the Witcher and the Witcherverse.

While Visenna’s physical presence in The Witcher series is minimal, her influence on Geralt’s life and destiny is profound. Geralt’s connection to his mother becomes a recurring theme throughout the saga, symbolizing his longing for acceptance, identity, and a sense of belonging. Visenna’s absence leaves an emotional void that Geralt seeks to fill throughout his journey, driving him to forge bonds with other characters such as Yennefer of Vengerberg and Ciri.
In Season 3 of the series, fans heard Geralt narrating his memory of his mother. And when Anika said “She loved you the best she could,” and that her sacrifice was for her son’s protection, he could not hold back his tears. The strength of her motherhood perhaps drove the Witcher to protect Ciri even if it cost him his life.
