The entire continent is in pandemonium! And at the center of its upheaval stands Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon AKA the sole princess of Cintra; the Destiny of the Witcherverse. While Yennefer and Henry Cavill’s Geralt try their best to prepare Ciri for something unfathomable, something almost enigmatic, the other forces play their best card to capture and use her for their benefit. And the mages have gone so far that they have apparently developed prototypes of Geralt’s child surprise.

Yes! We do have a false Ciri in The Witcher Season 3. Well, do not worry. It was a shock for the White Wolf as well. P.S.- You may come across a few spoiler monoliths going forward. Having that said, let us get straight to the point- who exactly is the fake Ciri everyone is talking about?

In the opening scenes of the season, viewers saw Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri running away from forces who wanted to capture the Cintran princess. Yet, it was only a matter of time before Rience compelled them to find the root cause and destroy it once and for all. That is how Cavill’s Geralt stumbled upon a mysterious cave wherein a number of abducted girls with elven lineage were tested in the second episode of the season. Among others was Teryn (played by Frances Pooley), who believed herself to be the Cintran princess.

As Geralt’s mother’s friend removed her memory spell, helping Teryn somewhat remember her own identity, she revealed that some mage was after girls like her. Towards the end of the season, it turned out that Vilgefortz, the chairman of the Brotherhood, was potentially creating false Ciris and dispersing them throughout the continent so that no one could trace the real one.

Well, his motives were not just dishonorable but personal. He apparently wanted to possess all of Cirilla’s powers and become the most powerful mage on the Continent.

What would fake Ciri have with the real Ciri and Geralt? And is she marrying Emhyr?

Technically, only her creator can answer that! But as far as we have understood, one reason could be Vilgefortz’s urge to understand the full potential of Freya Allan’s Ciri. And while the false Ciri may not have any direct relation with Geralt and his child surprise, the fact that Teryn posed as the Lion Cub of Cintra in itself makes her connected to everything.

If we look through the lens of Sapkowski’s books, there is no character like Teryn. However, readers do come across a false Ciri, Princess Fiona, whom Geralt uses as a prawn to send to Emhyr, who would keep her at a distance from the court while he continued his search for the real Ciri. He eventually fell in love with her and married her to announce the union of the two kingdoms. But in part one of The Witcher season 3, viewers saw White Flames burn down all the portraits of Cirilla except for a picture of her infant self. So what are his motives now? Only part two can tell.
