Will Smith opens up about his character dynamics interfering with his marital life
In Six Degrees of Separation, Smith played Paul as the pivotal actor which became a commercial success on the charts. However, the nature of his role was a crucial one that required striking mechanisms and coercion. He was to play a gay Newyorker hustler who falls in love with Stockard Channing.
Will spoke in the interview that his character has driven him so deep that after months of marriage he realized he had fallen for Stockard. “I would be dying and yearning outside our hotel room” to get a glimpse of Stockard even after it all ended, said Will. He further explained that his character was in love with Stockard Channing.
After the movie ended and he went back to his normal life having a 6-month-old baby, but he could not help but constantly think of Channing. The aghast of such a bizarre feeling reflected on his face as he narrated the entire story to the correspondent, Tracy Smith. Even after the host complimented his acting, Will pressed on and said, “it’s not acting at all!“.
The movie reportedly started as a play but was potentially made into a movie. It portrays Smith’s Paul as he infiltrates a group of well-known socialites and art dealers.
