When 11-Year-Old Meghan Markle Advocated for Women’s Rights by “standing up”

Meghan Markle has been through a lot in the past couple of years. From marrying a British prince to having a miscarriage to becoming one of the most searched celebrities, the American actress has come a long way. And with the recent release of the couple’s “vilified” docuseries Harry & Meghan, her popularity has risen to another level.

But before marrying Prince Harry, what made Meghan Markle popular was her role as Rachel Zane in Suits. But did you know that Markle became a real-life advocate way before starring in the show?

How did Meghan Markle accidentally become an advocate?

The 41-year-old actress is not just known for her acting skills and being the Duchess of Sussex; she has also established herself as an activist and philanthropist. Before her marriage to Prince Harry, she was bestowed with the position of global ambassador for World Vision and advocates for UN Women.

As per CNBC, in 2015, Meghan Markle revealed at a UN Women’s event that she accidentally became an advocate when she was barely 11. The story behind it is quite interesting. It goes back to when Meghan was in school, and one day she saw a dishwashing liquid commercial on TV that said, “Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.”

Two of the boys from her class commented that the kitchen was where women belonged and that really pissed Meghan off. When she shared this incident with her dad, he encouraged her to write a letter and she wrote it addressing the soap maker, TV journalist Linda Ellerbee, lawyer Gloria Allred, and the then-U.S. First Lady Hillary Clinton.

Surprisingly, not only did she receive encouraging replies from all these women but also a filming team to document the complete case. Moreover, the soap company changed “Women all over America” to “People all over America“. And that is how Meghan Markle won her first case!
