Ryan Reynolds is finally reaping the benefits of his investment. The Canadian-born already has a very successful career as an actor, with Deadpool 3 being his next project. Two years back, he decided to spread his wings by purchasing Wrexham AFC, a Welsh football club, to bring it back to its glory.
Reynolds co-owns the club with comedian Rob McElhenney. While we saw the club’s revival process on the docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, now the FA Cup has become a chance for the soccer club to show off their skills. Excited owner Reynolds could not hold himself back as his team surprised with a win recently.
Ryan Reynolds’ excitement was over the roof with Wrexham AFC’s win
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were overjoyed as their team proved victorious during the FA Cup. The non-league side won against Coventry City with a 4-3 score. Ryan Reynolds took to Instagram to post about the match. As mentioned by Fox Sports, he shared a story that read, “What. The. Fuck. Is. Happening?” FA Cup is an annual knockout football competition held in England. Wrexham AFC’s win came as a sweet surprise to fans as it grabbed a win after many years. While Coventry is a second-tier team and a regular EFL championship player, Wrexham is a fifth-tier team and competes in national leagues.
The astonishing victory has proved how lower-tier clubs have the potential to beat high-league clubs. Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have played a key role in Wrexham AFC’s success. They purchased the club, which was founded in 1864, for 2 million pounds back in 2021. The actor also takes efforts to promote the team by mingling with them and the fans alike.
As the club sees success, Reynolds is also in talks to invest in another sports team. Coming close to his homeland, the actor is considering purchasing the hockey team Ottawa Senators. Meanwhile, it is yet to be seen whether Wrexham AFC will grab the FA Cup this year.
