Netflix will now have the documentaries of two legendary action heroes from the 80s. After Arnold Schwarzenegger released his documentary on the OTT giant, his long-time rival, Sylvester Stallone, will also share his journey on the streaming giant. Both superstars stepped into the Hollywood industry around the same time. While Schwarzenegger won hearts as the cybernetic assassin, Stallone made it big as the Vietnam War veteran. Their stardom clashed with each other, resulting in a rift that went on for about twenty years.

Although the stars are now on good terms, it seems like Netflix can pit the action legends against each other once again. As Stallone’s documentary will hit the streaming platform soon, it would be exciting to witness who garners higher viewership. But there is a big difference between the two documentaries.

The Austrian Oak released his first documentary in the year 1977, which currently has a rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The documentary mainly focused on the former bodybuilder’s journey to winning the 1975 Mr. Olympia. While Pumping Iron was a huge success, his 2023 documentary Arnold received a rather lukewarm response. This happened because the docuseries felt more like a reciprocal arrangement with his 2023 Netflix action-comedy, FUBAR.

On the other hand, the Rocky actor delves deeper into his life through his documentary, Sly. Although he also had a recent series, Tulsa King, released in the year 2022, it was for a different streaming platform. Therefore, one can expect Stallone’s documentary to be only about his journey to becoming one of the most successful actors in Hollywood. The 77-year-old will openly talk about his “regrets” in life and will also discuss his childhood in the upcoming docuseries. However, it is still up in the air whether the actor will touch on his personal relationships and married life.

Only time will tell if the battle against viewerships will again spark the 20-year-old competitive spirit of both action legends.

The most popular rivalry in Hollywood

Unlike Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s fake feud, the rivalry between the 80s icons was kind of a big deal. Starting from the infamous flower throw-down after Rocky won Best Motion Picture – Drama, the stars never missed a moment to diss each other. While it helped the actors to keep their competitive flame alive, the situation was not very favorable for their fans. The action movie buffs had a great longing to see both the legends feature together in a movie when they were at their peaks.

Although their two-decades-old rivalry is over now, fans still draw comparisons between Schwarzenegger and Stallone. With a very similar journey that began from humble beginnings, questions like “Who is more popular” or “Who has a higher net worth”, pale in front of the inspirational journey both the Escape Plan actors had. As the Netflix documentary is ready to explore the 50-year-long legacy of Stallone, fans can hope to get more insights into the equation between Schwarzenegger and Stallone.
