Michael Boughen created an Australian animal documentary and reality TV series, Muster Dogs, for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Although it is not a Netflix original, it is available on the streaming service for both the fun and fur enthusiasts. The first season premiered on ABC TV and ABC iview on January 23, 2022, which follows five Australian Kelpie puppies, trained to become muster dogs on Australian farms. The training was done under the guidance of expert trainers Neil and Helen McDonald. 

After the positive commercial reception of Muster Dogs’ first installment, a second season was announced, focusing on Border Collie puppies. Muster Dogs season 2 was released on January 14, 2024. Last October, ABC confirmed a third season, accompanied by a four-part special, Muster Dogs: Where Are They Now. Series narrator Lisa Millar presented the special, which debuted on December 1, 2024.

That said, who were the winners of Muster Dogs season 1 and 2? And how long will it be until the third installment?

Netflix is a jack of all trades that maintains a reputation as an all-rounder. Though there are many animal documentaries available on the streamer, Muster Dogs has garnered special traction among viewers. The first season, spanning 9 episodes, was won by Annie. Queensland grazier Frank Finger trained Annie. As for the second season, Border Collie Buddy took home the prize, thanks to grazier Zoe Miller.

Muster Dogs: Where Are They Now featured five human and canine candidates, including winners Finger and Annie, and Buddy and Miller. Additionally, it had Joni Hall and Chet, Cilla and Ash, and Russ and Molly. The third season aired in February 2025 with both kelpies and border collies taking center stage.
