Netflix is stacking up its sleeves with a special focus on the crime thriller genre this year. Though the 2025 spring is already set for quite a few chilling lineups queued on the streaming giant, it turns out Netflix has no plans to hit the brakes just now. Amidst the wave of anticipation about what is about to come, the air has been abuzz about Department Q, an edge-of-your-seat thriller soon to land the OTT platform.

So, for those wondering what is stored on Netflix’s Department Q, here is a rundown on all things known about the crime drama.

All about Department Q on Netflix

Department Q is a forthcoming crime thriller on Netflix, based on the novels of the same name by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. The show reportedly follows Carl Morck, a former detective of top ranks in Edinburgh. After a supposed attack on his partner rendering her paralyzed and another police officer’s demise, Carl takes up the task of setting up Department Q, a band of eccentric rebels. As of now, there are no trailers available for the upcoming series.

Scott Frank has created the television series and co-written it with Chandni Lakhani. However, last February, Stephen Greenhorn and Colette Kane joined forces with the two for writing the episodes, revealing Frank would direct the first 2. For those unaware, Department Q has eight episodes in total. Frank and Andy Harries serve as executive producers for Department Q. It is produced by Left Bank Pictures, Flitcraft, and Sony Pictures Television.

According to Deadline’s report from February 2024, Department Q has a star-studded crew joining Netflix. The cast includes Matthew Goode, Chloe Pirrie, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne, Kelly Macdonald, Mark Bonner, Shirley Henderson, Jamie Sives, and Kate Dickie. Goode will lead Department Q as Carl Morck. As per What's on Netflix, the cast also comprises Lily Knight, Kim Allan, Alex Newman, Ellen Bannerman, Charlene Boyd, Kal Sabir, Douglas Russel, Jack Greenlees, James McNaughton, Gilly Gilchrist, and Caroline Guthrie.

Conor Berry, Nolan Willis, Sani Mamood, Gabrielle Monica Hughes, Angus Yellowlees, Hanna Low, Frances Mayli McCann, Tom Duncan, Nandi Hudson, Aaron McVeigh, Clive Russel, Kai Alexander, Hugo Shack, James Peterson, James Dawoud, and Coseama Cook round out the list. The filming took place in Edinburgh, Scotland, between February and June 2024. However, as for the release date, Netflix has yet to confirm a window, but it is most expected to hit the streaming giant sometime this year. Considering it is already stocking up on more than one chilling crime drama content, it should not be long before Netflix announces its release da.
