What Happened To The Ambitious $40,000,000 Sci-Fi Netflix Film ‘The Mothership’ Starring Halley Berry After Its 2021 Announcement?
From purring as Catwoman to storming the X-Men as Storm, Halle Berry has been a class apart. As a one-woman whirlwind of fierce and fabulous, she took on Hollywood like a force of nature in stilettos. For her to have won all of an Oscar, a Golden Globe and an Emmy award as an African-American actress, speaks volumes of the 57-year-old’s prowess in acting. Two of her thrillers alongside Keanu Reeves, John Wick and The Matrix Reloaded are considered some of the biggest blockbusters of Hollywood to date.
Since The Matrix Reloaded made Halle Berry the queen of sci-fi thrillers in 2003, her fans eagerly await all her flicks in this genre. And while The Mothership, which falls in the same category, was announced in 2022, fans are still wondering what happened with it.

Although Netflix announced The Mothership’s release in 2022, there have been no updates on the project still. According to Whats on Netflix, this could either mean that it will come out soon or has been shelved. Initially featured in Netflix’s 2022 lineup, it was later delayed to appear in 2023. In June, Omari Hardwick from the cast revealed that Netflix will launch it in late 2023.
Yet, it has had no mention in the OTT mogul’s movie slate for this year so far. Considering how even 10 years after its release, Berry’s The Call was trending on Netflix, shelving a project with the 57-year-old would be a bad call for the platform.
Meanwhile, The Mothership follows Sara Morse, who is played by none other than Halle Berry. And behind the script is an Oscar-nominated writer!
Who is the team and cast behind The Mothership?
The Mothership is written and directed by Matt Charman, for whom this will make a debut as a director. The Oscar nominee’s talent shows in the gripping storyline as it unfolds an extraterrestrial mystery. Besides acting, Halle Berry who is still proving to be a badass in her 50s, also joined the team in co-producing the flick.

The cast also includes Silver Linings Playbook actor John Ortiz and House of Cards actress, Molly Parker. Perhaps according to what Hardwick said, the flick may finally arrive on Netflix in the coming months. After Berry’s stellar performance in 2022’s Bruised, her fans are obviously left wanting more.
