'Wednesday' Season 2 Smashes Records Mid-Production, as Netflix Series Undergoes Significant Behind-The-Scenes Overhaul

Wednesday Addams is getting ready to unveil more Nevermore mysteries. The Netflix original has become a top pick on the streaming giant, even giving iconic shows like Stranger Things a run for their money. And now Wednesday season 2 is poised to get even more dark, fantastical, and aesthetically Burtonesque. The filming for the second installment was delayed by the Hollywood strikes in 2023. However, it was later informed that the filming would restart in April of this year in Ireland.

Thanks to that decision, Wednesday has recently broken a massive record even before the production could call it a wrap.

Cameras are currently rolling for Wednesday season 2, with the majority of the original cast returning for a second run. The show, as promised, went into production on time this year, albeit at a different filming location. While the first season was shot in Romania, the second season’s production has been relocated to County Wicklow, Ireland. Recently, Screen Ireland, the Irish Film Board, revealed that Wednesday season 2 is the largest production to ever film in Ireland in terms of its production budget.

The production also had the honor of receiving a visit from Taoiseach Simon Harris, Ireland's Prime Minister, after the news came out. Even Anna Mallett, Netflix's VP of Production, expressed her gratitude for Ireland and their contribution to Wednesday’s cultural relevance. While Jenna Ortega is returning as the titular character, Percy Hynes White, who played Wednesday’s potential love interest, Xavier, has bid his farewell to the franchise. But that should not be a problem.

Jenna Ortega, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, shared what she wants for her character in the second installment. While she could not get into details about the plot, since the writers had just begun their penning sessions, she expressed a wish for her character to be more focused on herself rather than getting entangled in boy drama. The actress also wanted to level up the horror in the next season.

We wanna up the horror aspect a little bit. And then get Wednesday out of the romantic situation, and just let her be her own individual,” said the 21-year-old. Not to mention that her character's trust issues have now hit the roof after Wednesday's first love interest turned out to be a cold-blooded monster, literally. Considering that, one should not expect Wednesday to seek anything remotely romantic in the upcoming season. Nonetheless, the show is already giving positive signs of becoming a massive success on Netflix.
