“We don’t need to see…..”- Netflix Leaves Internet Divided as Streaming Giant Makes First Pick for NFL Docuseries Following Super Bowl LVII
While Netflix’s catalog is vast, the streamer was largely lacking in sports-related content. But with the success of Formula 1: Drive to Survive, the platform knew the next category they could tap into, to lure in more audience. The show offered unprecedented access to the racing event. Eventually, the streaming giant released Break Point for tennis enthusiasts, while Full Swing chronicled the PGA Tour. Now Netflix has teamed up with the NFL to bring a special docu-series that will offer a special insight into the industry through the lens of quarterbacks.
Netflix and NFL are collaborating to produce Quarterback that will follow different athletes in each season. For the first season, the show will follow Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes, Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins, and Atlanta Falcons’ Marcus Mariota. The show will chart the entirety of the 2022 season as per the streaming giant’s recent tweet.

Viewers will have a look at Mahomes’ victories, from leading the Chiefs to winning the Super Bowl in 2022 and taking his second MVP award home. Cousins experienced both a loss and a win last year. While he won the NFC North Division, he came back home defeated in the first playoff. Meanwhile, Mariota scored 5 touchdowns before he was benched and sustained a knee injury.
Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and Mahome-owned 2PM Productions are also serving as producers on the show. NFL Films’ Ross Ketoger, Keith Cossrow, and Pat Kelleher are attached to the project as executive producers along with Manning. VP of unscripted and documentary series at Netflix, Brandon Rigg promised fans uninterrupted and unprecedented access to the biggest athletes that no one ever had before.
“We aim to give our members unprecedented access to the biggest athletes in the world, telling stories that you can’t see anywhere else,” he told in a statement, as reported by Hollywood Reporter.
The streamer has not announced an official date yet, but it is to hit the platform sometime this summer. Although it is welcoming news to some of the fans, others were not so interested.
Fans react to the new Netflix docu-series Quarterback debuting this summer
Fans are mostly excited to learn about the collaboration. But there are a few who have voiced their complete lack of disinterest in watching the show.
Fans have a mixed reaction, to say the least. Many are not-so excited about the docuseries, even more so since Patrick Mahomes is going to be a part of it. A user even commented, “We don’t need to see Mahomes’ family anymore than we have to,” referring to the wide presence the family already shares, given that the quarterback’s brother, Jackson Mahomes, is an internet celebrity.
