Political documentaries, no matter how old or how new, carry a spark within themselves. It is perhaps because they carry the fictionalized history of human evolution. Well, a bit of magic stirred with this grand history human beings take pride in, never goes wrong. And it seems like the streaming giant, Netflix, understands this all too well. In the mid of 2022, it debuted a documented film on Black America’s attorney general, Ben Crump, and it has now become a critical darling.
For those who are not aware, Nadia Hallgren directed the film as she followed attorney Ben Crump, dealing with a plethora of cases throughout his life; including the infamous George Floyd death case. Civil: Ben Crump apparently puts down the rose-tinted glasses and provides a full view of Crump’s life as a family man and an activist cum attorney.
I’m deeply honored and humbled that @Netflix’s “CIVIL” — which follows my life and work in the aftermath of the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery in 2020 — won the 2023 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Documentary. pic.twitter.com/LovkrR2SdB

Following this, Crump took to Twitter to express his gratitude to everyone concerned. He further acknowledged that the film is more than just about the past. It is “a powerful reminder that we must continue the fight for justice.” The attorney then thanked the directors and crew members to give his life work a beautiful shape.
His followers and appreciators also came forward to congratulate him.

Some also shared their personal experiences with him, saying that Crump is an incredible human being in general.
This is a man I have looked up to since I was 18 years old. He was the defense lawyer for my best friend who was being molested by the spokesperson for the Florida DCF's while my friend was a juvenile. They sued the state of Florida and won.
He's an incredible human being. https://t.co/dwGPJudSZ8
