Watch: ‘The Witcher’ Cast Mimic Henry Cavill’s Geralt Voice and the Results Are Hilarious
Andrzej Sapkowski probably had to blow out the fire that his pen caught as he wrote in ‘Blood of Elves’, “deep, gravelly, cold and devoid of emotion,” describing the voice of the monster hunting Witcher that he birthed. But a better description would follow in the ‘Tower of Swallow’ where he wrote: “Like the growl of a cornered beast, only quieter and more dangerous.” And this precisely became the foundation stone on what Henry Cavill would curate the voice of his Geralt.
Cavill depended on his vast knowledge of Sapkowski’s books and years of playing The Witcher video game to bring Geralt to life. Hence, the precision and brilliance. However, before Liam Hemsworth got a chance at it, the show’s cast put forth some great impersonations of Geralt’s voice.

There are many attributes to Geralt that will make you want to toss a coin, and his voice is one of them. Cavill understood the symbolism and layers to it and gave it his best shot. And as they promoted Season 3, the rest of the cast tried their hand at it. A creator got the cast to do their best impersonation of Geralt’s voice. And let’s just say we hope Liam Hemsworth does a better job, owing he’s devouring the books.
While most of them just grunted into the mic, Freya Allan mustered up all the raspiness she could to say “f**k,” in the most Geralt way possible. And it became clear that the intense training given by Cavill’s Geralt was restricted to teaching her fighting techniques and did not include verbal therapy.
The best as far as effort goes was Joey Batey’s description of Geralt’s voice. “It is Homer Simpson whispering,” Batey compared Geralt’s iconic raspy voice to the main protagonist of The Simpsons. We can assume he will earn himself shade with bells on from not just Henry Cavill but Andrzej Sapkowski and Doug Cockle as well. However, even in tomfoolery, this reminded fans of just how great the British actor was as Geralt.

When the news of the Netflix series adaptation first made rounds, it is true that fans were guarding it with dragon breaths. This is because the book and the video game have attained a pedestal that others can only aim for. Geralt’s voice in the video game is considered to be one of the most iconic of all time. And it is all thanks to Doug Cockle.
It was only Henry Cavill and the dedication he holds to his craft that could infiltrate into the otherwise highly guarded franchise. The actor did such a wonderful job that the man behind Geralt’s voice himself applauded him. With him exiting, one can only wait to see how much of the shoe gets filled.
