Who is Jonathan Larson- how Andrew Garfield got him right?
Andrew Garfield brought to life the role of Jonathan Larson, an American composer known best for his works Rent and Tick, Tick… Boom!
Fans have seen many times how great an actor Garfield is with roles like Desmond Doss in Hacksaw Ridge and that of Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network. Jonathan Larson is another name on this list. Not only did Garfield perfectly nail the look, but he also made sure fans could see the originality of the man he was playing.
The actor replicated everything Larson did, from the way he dresses up to the way he moves his fingers and eyes. Larson was a passionate young man who changed the face of American theaters because of his passion, something Garfield embodies perfectly in the 2-hour long film on Netflix.

For nine long years, Jonathan Larson worked on weekdays as a waiter at the Moondance Diner. During weekends, he worked on the musicals. The legend of Larson was tragic indeed as he died right before all of his works were coming to fruition. On the very day that “Rent”, Larson’s first musical was having its first off-Broadway preview performance, Larson suffered an aortic dissection, presumably because of an undiagnosed Marfan syndrome.
Though Larson died young, the impression of his undeniable genius lives on. Both of his works have changed the face of theater. An example of this is Hamilton. Though completely unrelated to Larson, the musical wouldn’t have been half as successful had it not been for Larson’s works and the impact on theater he had in the last century.
