Will Smith returned to the big screen with Emancipation. The movie albeit critically acclaimed, failed to cause the same commotion as his Oscar slap, which was more or less what Smith was hoping for. You don’t have to belong to the Holmes family to know that after the Oscar slap, Will Smith needed to make a smashing comeback in order to revive his career. The actor acknowledged that the road to redemption was going to be long and hard.

However, the ironic absence of the movie in the omnipresent award shows as we near the end of the year. The brilliant storytelling, direction, and performances when weighed next to the now-infamous personality attached to it, sadly falters. And sadly, the entire movie has had to pay the price of Will Smith’s actions by earning a disappointing 3k per screen against a staggering $150 million budget.

Will Smith disappointed by award snubs

The Men in Black actor has undoubtedly delivered one of the best performances in his career. We see the actor at his peek with hollowed cheeks in a black and white, both metaphorically and literally, setting. The actor as understanding as he has been of the public’s disapproval still staggered in steps when he was not met with the usual box high box office ratings.

The movie was filmed long before the actor pulled out one of the loudest slaps at the Oscars. And the actor feels the most disappointed while looking at the entire team getting snubbed. With Golden Globes nominations out, and no Emancipation or Will Smith in sight, it has become clear that the Oscars aren’t the only awards with their doors closed on Smith.

Does the Emancipation actor have a plan B?

Some may say that Will Smith’s performance in Emancipation has won hearts, however, it does not take away from the fact that the movie has flopped devastatingly. Naturally, Smith is now looking for another project to bring life back into his career. And like many directors, Smith also believes that a Tom Cruise action-packed movie is the path to success.
