After George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire inspired, Game of Thrones concluded its run, another gem rose to take its place. The Witcherverse was originally vividly described in the original books of Andrzej Sapkowski and took shape in varied imaginations. The one to truly bring it to life and etch the fantasy into the hearts of the fans was the Henry Cavill-led Netflix’s The Witcher. However, the British actor was not the only one in the cast who stole the show.

Rather, there is a cast member who has jumped ships from one of the sources – CD Projekt’s Witcher video games.

Tissaia de Vries, the sorceress and Rectoress of Aretuza, remained a powerful character in The Witcher from its inception till her farewell in season three. The wielder of lightning, played stunningly and accurately by MyAnna Buring at times, made her impact felt with the show’s narrative, especially in season three. The eventful season finale which marked the lowest ratings ever for the series also brought an end to Buring’s character. Yet, on her birthday on September 22, fans were reminded of her Witcherverse legacy that spans even before her character ever appeared on the show.

The Witcher games, of which Henry Cavill is an avid fan, serve as a source of inspiration and background for the Netflix show. In 2016, a Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine expansion pack featured the character of Anna Henrietta. Voiced by Buring, the character she brought to life was The Duchess of Toussaint. Leaving her mark with a big impact on the game, Burning carried it over to the show. Moreover, with Tissaia’s death, Buring is once again set to shift narratives.

Season 3 of the Netflix fantasy saw Yennefer staying behind for Tissaia leaving Geralt and Ciri on their journeys. While Ciri opened up a sub-plot by joining the Rats, Geralt is on a makeover of his own. When the show returns with its next season, it will be testing times for Yennefer. The character, played by Anya Chalotra, has now taken over the leadership of her mentor Tissaia. Meanwhile, as she seeks to reform The Brotherhood in Aretuza, she would be on a path to reconciliation with her flame, Geralt.

The show, however, would have some explaining to do when Geralt returns differently. Although there are a few references in the books of him returning scarred physically, the show might take on a different approach. Additionally, the character arc of Yennefer also opened up another sub-plot, the many open-ended ones of which were a reason for a disastrous season three.
