The Witcher has been the subject of debate lately, but not for good reasons. When the show started, fans thought it would become a legacy in the world of fantasy adaptations. Viewers had huge expectations from the series considering the impact the books and video games have had over the decades. However, after a strong first season, people started pointing out mistakes creators made in the adaptation.

And with the end of season 3, they lost a lot of goodwill and here are the top three reasons fans might not watch the show again.

It is by far no secret that the viewership of The Witcher plummeted when season 3 arrived on the platform. According to the statistics, it went down 15% from what it garnered during the second season. So if these numbers are taken into consideration, it can be supposed that viewers would not watch season 3. One of the biggest and most important reasons for this presumed outcome is Henry Cavill.

Henry Cavill’s exit has put people off

Henry Cavill played the role of Geralt in the show and all the viewers considered him the best incarnation of the character. So when the actor announced his exit from the fantasy drama, the news left fans shocked and upset.

This decision did not sit well with them and they called out the creators for replacing him with Liam Hemsworth. In fact, many vowed to quit the show because they could not watch anyone else taking over the iconic role. So the former Superman is indeed a major factor which might affect the viewership in season 4.

Straying from the source material

In addition to Cavill, the second biggest issue that the show has been facing since the beginning is its relationship with the source material. The show has established an image of veering off from its roots and viewers have always pointed out the depiction of new plotlines.

Season 2, especially, has been criticized for adding unnecessary tropes and though producers have tried to shield their decision, nothing worked out so far. Even if they make an effort it be closer to the books in season 4, no one knows how fans will take it.

Prior to the first season’s release, showrunner Lauren Hissrich had already mapped out a seven-season story plan. In fact, the British actor initially wanted to play the protagonist for all seasons. The only condition he had was for the adaptation to stay loyal to the book and cherish this legendary storyline.

Now the series is heading to its conclusion with two more seasons. However, the strikes and the lackluster reception of the series has cast a heavy cloud of doubt on the series and its future.
