3 Reasons Why Ciri Should Never Become a Witcher on the Netflix Show
Princess Ciri, in The Witcher with her supernatural prowess and intricate storyline, was poised for an extraordinary odyssey toward greatness. As viewers anticipated, her character arc underwent a remarkable evolution, especially in her connections with Geralt and Yennefer, layering depth into her narrative. Connected by fate’s threads, Ciri honed her skills under Geralt’s arm, eyeing the path of a witcher. Their journey commenced at Kaer Morhen post the fall of Cintra, but her training sessions unraveled eerie trances, sowing seeds of doubt on her capability to embrace the witcher’s mantle.
In the midst of these uncertainties, three strong reasons popped up, making a powerful case against her journey into The Witcher realm in the Netflix series.

Amidst Henry Cavill‘s departure, another storm brewed in the Witcher world due to the series veering off from the original book plot. The notion of transforming Ciri into a Witcher, though aligned with Cavill’s exit, risked steering the storyline into choppy waters. The show faced flak for straying from the books, and this prospective twist with Ciri could have caused a rift, deviating sharply from the original narrative.
In The Witcher novels, although Ciri possessed combat prowess akin to a Witcher, she never went through the transformative trials that bestowed superhuman abilities. While she hinted at identifying as a Witcher due to her upbringing, she did not entirely embrace the label. This proposed change could have been a curveball for viewers, greatly diverging from the book’s essence. A different approach, like a spin-off, might have better showcased Ciri’s tale without veering too far off from the original storyline, ensuring a more seamless transition for fans.
Ciri: Already a force to reckon with, no Witcher upgrade needed
Geralt’s keenness to train Ciri in combat skills arose from a pressing need to safeguard her against numerous forces vying for her extraordinary powers. Eager to emulate Vesemir’s instructions, Geralt intended to impart swordsmanship to Ciri. Moreover, it echoed the mentorship that had shaped his own skills. Simultaneously, Ciri harbored a fervent desire for strength. This was fueled by her quest for revenge against Cahir, the notorious black knight tasked with capturing her.
Ciri’s journey unraveled her astounding powers. As a Source possessing the rare Elder Blood, her powers remained potent yet unbridled, akin to a force of nature. Her displays of magic, including her echoing scream and spontaneous bursts of energy, showcased her innate prowess. More so, these were reminiscent of her mother Pavetta’s formidable abilities. Moreover, her unique heritage granted her access to alternate realms. Despite her remarkable gifts, the need for her to become a Witcher wanes, as her innate abilities provide formidable protection.
Mutation, an uncharted risk for Ciri
The young witcher-girl, despite her exceptional swordsmanship and skills, lacked the crucial mutations and tolerance required for consuming Witcher potions. Her inability to handle these elixirs, such as oriole, will leave her exposed to the perils faced by Witchers. Despite her impressive fencing finesse and the ability to teleport, compensating somewhat for the absence of supernatural abilities, she remains susceptible to toxins and infections—a glaring vulnerability.
Ciri’s outward appearance concealed the absence of typical Witcher mutations, preventing her from accessing crucial potions. Although her combat prowess was commendable, lacking those enhanced capabilities made her susceptible to dangers encountered by seasoned Witchers. Notably, even the great Witcher characters themselves and the formidable sorceresses such as Triss and Yennefer refrained from considering her for the transformative mutation process.

Ciri is quite the force to be reckoned with as things stand at the moment. Her powers coupled with Geralt’s training make her a deadly foe to face. With the upcoming season bringing her and Yennefer to the fore, we will see just how unnecessary it is for her to become a Witcher. That said, without the transmutation that a Witcher undergoes, Ciri will likely manage to carry forward the legacy of Witchers and her mentor, Geralt, just like she did in the books.
What other reasons can you think of that go against Ciri transforming into a Witcher? Let us know in the comments below.
