The much-awaited One Piece live-action series finally set sail on Netflix a while ago. Perhaps one of the most hyped series, the streamer did not fail to amaze the audience. Shortly after its release, the Eiichiro Oda series received impressive reviews from critics worldwide. Moreover, the creators delivered a completely new take on the story rather than recreating the original story. 

One of the major concerns among the fans regarding the live-action series was diverging from the source material. While the series did take a different route than the manga and anime, it managed to stay faithful to the series’ character design and backstory. However, at the same time, there were some huge differences that the fans could not help but notice.

How does the One Piece live-action series differ from the manga? 

While the live-action series featured multiple changes from the original story, a few were very evident. The first change in the live-action series was the character introductions. As we all know, character introductions are one of the most prominent parts of an anime. The original series delivered some legendary intros. In the original series, fans witness Luffy come out of a barrel during the initial scene, while Zoro is introduced when the Marines hold him hostage. However, in the Netflix adaptation, the intros are completely different for other characters, including Garp as well. 

The second significant difference the anime fans noticed was the first meet-up between Luffy and his crew. In Netflix’s latest series, Luffy’s first encounter is during Zoro’s and Helemppo’s fight. In the original manga, the first meet-up between the two is when Luffy hears about Zoro from a little girl. Similarly, unlike the hilarious meet-up between Nami and Luffy in the manga, Netflix changes it completely. 

Another significant change that the live-action series witnessed was the lack of comic scenes. As we all know, One Piece is incredibly hilarious, both manga and anime. However, Netflix’s latest adaptation featured comparatively fewer comic scenes than the original series.

Shortly after the release of One Piece‘s live-action series, the Netflix project received impressive reviews from the fans. The project took the world by storm, with fans already talking about a second season of the show. While it is too early to say, the second installment depends on one significant factor. 

Bringing the story in a live-action format left Netflix with a massive hole in the pocket. Every episode of the series cost nearly $18 million. Owing to the huge costs involved, the series’ second season depends entirely on the viewership that the first season will bring. Moreover, the show will have to be a massive success for the streamer to consider the possibility of a sequel.
