After three spectacular seasons of The Witcher, Henry Cavill gracefully bowed out of the series, making way for Liam Hemsworth to step into the shoes of the iconic character in season 4. However, by then, the Enola Holmes actor’s masterful embodiment of Geralt of Rivia had already made its place in viewers’ hearts. While Cavill’s departure left many saddened and disappointed by the Netflix series, there was still hope that the British actor may reprise his role with the upcoming series.

Now it seems like recent developments will only make it tougher for audiences to welcome Hemsworth into the franchise.

Currently, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is in the works alongside the series’ next season. Well, fans were expecting either Cavill or Hemsworth to voice Geralt in it. However, Doug Cockle who voices Geralt in the show’s video game counterpart is the one who bagged the voicing role. So, this means that before Hemsworth, another fan-favorite behind Geralt will mesmerize fans. All this could make it tough for viewers to welcome another Geralt through Hemsworth into the mix.

Before the series, Witcherverse fans were all about the game which predated the Netflix show. So, understandably, fans of the franchise who have been with it from the start are more thrilled than anybody. Their jubilation was evident online when Cockle’s return was announced. In contrast, Hemsworth’s takeover in July was met with much more hostility.

In Andrzej Sapkowski’s Sword of Destiny novel, among the six short tales is the one dedicated to Essi Daven. This bard takes Geralt on quite the adventure in the chapter titled A Little Sacrifice. Well, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is derived from that very story. When Geralt fails to complete a quest for Prince Agloval, the prince refuses to pay him. What follows leads them to unveil a concealed undersea realm.

While investigating some mysterious occurings, Geralt encounters Essi Daven while searching for the truth. Fans have high expectations from Netflix as production begins on the anime. Those wishing to familiarize themselves with the anime’s plot and characters can also try their hands on Sapkowski’s literature which can help build further context. Meanwhile, one can only hope that Doug Cockle will bring his A-game to the series too.
