For quite some time, a name in Hollywood is gaining more traction, and the name is Timothée Chalamet. With his passion for acting and great roles, he is making a place for himself in the industry. 2021 bestowed upon Timothée Chalamet Don’t Look Up, in which he played the role of Yule alongside other cast members like Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Meryl Streep.

With this role, the actor has definitely showcased his acting prowess, as he stole viewers’ hearts within the limited screen time. However, turns out, he did more than just wow the audience with his acting when it comes to Don’t Look Up. In a conversation with Variety, Adam Mckay, director of Don’t Look Up declares that Chalamet has a vital role in shaping the movie’s climax sequence.

Timothée Chalamet and Don’t Look Up’s dinner scene

We all remember the last scene of the film, particularly the dinner scene, where Randall’s family, Teddy, Kate, and Yule come together to have the last dinner of their life. They were sitting beside each other, chatting as if they will see a new sun tomorrow. Randall decides to have a prayer, despite not being religious. Yule takes over and recites the prayer and asked God to forgive them.

This whole scene moved the fans and was a great touch to the climax. Turns out the scene was actually Chalamet’s idea, as the actor felt that something was missing from the scene.

How Chalamet shaped up the climax

During the Variety interview, Adam McKay admitted that he had been wanting to work with Chalamet for quite some time and was offered a minor role in the Netflix film. However, the Dune actor was skeptical about the lack of substance to the character. Apparently, that’s when the film’s co-producer, Ron Suskind, asked McKay, “Where’s faith in this movie?

McKay adds, “And I was like, ‘Oh, you’re right. You’re right! I think we’re so used to thinking of religion as denominations, and now it’s become a political cudgel in this country. I forgot about real faith. And it was just a lightbulb moment where it’s like, ‘I know who Timothée’s character is.’” With the addition of Chalamet’s Yule, McKay said, “the team was complete.”

He also added, “And that might be my single favorite moment in the entire movie,” 

If there’s one thing that we learned from McKay’s Variety interview aside from the magic of filmmaking, it is that Timothée Chalamet holds the potential to be more than just an actor. Maybe with some time and guidance, the Dune actor may get into scripting or filmmaking himself.
