The 80th edition of the world’s oldest and most prestigious film festival is upon us. So it’s safe to say that movie buffs are bouncing off the walls right now. With its glamorous red carpet moments and rich selection of cinematic masterpieces, the Venice Film Festival is here to wow us once more. To the delight of festivalgoers, the event doubles as a symposium for artistic expression and cultural submersion. While giving recognition to a diverse selection of international films, it now also includes movies produced for Netflix.

Recently, Netflix Tudum announced the five movies produced for the streaming giant that will be gracing the festival this year. Given that the OTT mogul did not fail to impress with last year’s lineup which included White Noise and Don’t Worry Darling, we have high hopes for this year too.

Bagging the honorary position of closing film for the festival is Society of the Snow. Directed by the man that gave us The Orphanage, this survival thriller by J.A. Bayona is set in the majestic Andes. Another thriller set to make its debut will be David Fincher’s The Killer starring Michael Fassbender. If there’s one man that knows a thing or two about producing gripping gems, it’ll be the director of Fight Club and Gone Girl. But if intense nail-biting sequences do not float your boat, you will find relief in the comedies we are going to tell you about next.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Sir Ben Kingsley set out on a mission to tickle our funny bones while transporting us into the world of a miraculous guru. Taking a darker approach to comedy, Pablo Larraín’s El Conde follows a forlorn vampire that wishes to die. After all, more than two centuries of living can eventually get tiresome.
