The Witcher’s Costume Designer Throws Light on Henry Cavill, Freya Allen and Anya Chalotra’s Iconic Costumes
After a few days, we will finally see Henry Cavill reprising his role as Geralt of Rivia for one last time. Alongside the British actor, we will also see Anya Chalotra and Freya Allen, fighting yet another fight. The actors’ love for their characters plays an important role in having an influential impact on their fans. However, one more thing that enhances the impact is their costumes. Costumes give the character a perfect identity, which makes the viewer feel connected to them. The Witcher‘s costume designer, Lucinda Wrights, threw light on these iconic costumes of the characters in the series.
Every character has a specific quality that their costumes bring out in them. Therefore, it is extremely crucial for the costume designer to catch the essence of every entity in the show. Lucinda Wright, who has been designing the costumes for the Netflix drama, opened up about her work. She explained how each character in the series has a specific color palate decided for them. Moreover, she also closely examines if the costumes are appropriate for the character’s personality.

Talking about Cavill’s Geralt, Wright revealed Geralt would mostly be seen in black color, as per Redanian Intelligence. Moreover, the blue color represented Ciri, Cintra, and elves and Yennefer gets purple to bring out her eyes. Yennefer of Vengerberg is a dynamic sorceress. She is a powerful character. Therefore, to complement her magical personality, her character got a specific kind of costume.
Wright explained that she got the inspiration for Yennefer’s costume from an old Hells Angel. Because they are rare and got tattoos on the back, it inspired Wright to design Yennefer’s coat and its embroidery down in the back. Once, the 74th Emmy Award-nominated designer opened up about what the Enola Holmes actor thought about his costumes designed by her.

Geralt of Rivia has been fighting monsters, as we have witnessed. Therefore, he should be about to move his body with the maximum flexibility possible. So, when Wright was brought back to design costumes for the second season as well, she had a discussion with the 40-year-old actor, as Variety reported. Cavill honestly and with the utmost humbleness, explained what he liked and did not like in the costume.
Because Geralt keeps his swords in the back, at first it was difficult for the actor to reach out for his swords. And details like that helped Wright with the modification of the costume. Now, because Geralt will have more dangerous situations to deal with in the upcoming season, his costume must allow the actor to move around in it with ease.
