‘The Witcher’ vs ‘The Wheel of Time’: How the Witcher Finally Learned to Do Things Like Its Contemporary
If fans count the two best fantasy juggernauts currently taking their attention, it would be Netflix’s The Witcher and Amazon’s The Wheel of Time. Although both stories take unique approaches to the genre, they have a lot in common. For instance, the depiction of the characters and the earth-shattering challenges they confront is the key that connects them both. Also, both shows are live adaptations of renowned novels and have become popular since their release.
But the thing that differed between them was how creators picked these tales and presented them to the audiences. The first two seasons of the series have come under fire for straying away from Andrzej Sapkowski’s books. Fortunately, creators noted those points and learned to do things like the contemporary show on another streamer.

Netflix dropped the third season of The Witcher not so long ago. This installment was way more faithful to the source material, which its predecessors missed largely. Season 3 followed Time of Contempt, the second novel of the fantasy saga. Fans saw that the new season captured all the major events from the book and portrayed it accurately.
For instance, they adopted the Thanedd coup where mages were attacked during their conclaves in the academy of Aretuza. It is one of the most pivotal moments in the books and the creators amazingly adapted it. Then there is the Korath desert sequence of Ciri that served well to the source as she wandered alone for days, having all those visions.
These changes have put the series on the same path that made The Wheel of Time a fan favorite. This high fantasy drama was adapted with a lot of care and reverence for the source material. Though there were some changes, it only worked out better for the story, and the mystery over who the Dragon Reborn kept fans intrigued. Meanwhile, for the fans of the Continent, this might not be the end because the producer has promised more such events in upcoming seasons.

In July 2023, The Witcher producer Tomek Bagiński spoke to Radio Times about the recasting of Geralt. In this interview, he stated that they have hired new writers for season 4 and they have picked some amazing events that are close to the source material. Though they will not justify the change in appearance of Geralt, he believes they can interpret this saga from different perspectives.
So the upcoming season will be more thrilling where Liam Hemsworth will take over the role of Henry Cavill. Also, Ciri will take center stage instead of the mutant which closely aligns with events in the novels.
