The Witcher has always been a cauldron of surprises, as it should be in a world of magic and monsters. But perhaps the wildest twist came when they decided to swap out the beloved Henry Cavill as Geralt. After three glorious seasons of monster-slaying, the news that Liam Hemsworth would be stepping into Geralt’s iconic boots had fans raising more than just their eyebrows. But just as some were starting to make amends, a fresh behind-the-scenes picture of Hemsworth’s Geralt surfaced, and well, for some fans, this might just be the final potion that breaks the spell.

Industry insider MyTimeToShineHello recently conjured up some behind-the-scenes magic on X, dropping a sneak peek of Liam Hemsworth suited up in Geralt of Rivia’s legendary Witcher armor. But instead of casting a spell on fans, the post quickly became a riot of laughter. Although fans have already seen glimpses of the new Geralt, they are still not exactly enchanted. Earlier, some of his co-stars, including Freya Allan, could not help but gush over Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt—even though they thought they would dread the change. Hemsworth’s down-to-earth charm seems to have made the transition easier for the cast but for the fans; not quite. Even after he broke his silence, sharing how he dove deep into Andrzej Sapkowski’s books and binge-watched the previous seasons to prepare, the switch feels all too glaring.

As for the fans? It has been one long lament, with many struggling to see past the change.

There was a time when every Henry Cavill update from The Witcher had fans buzzing, counting down the days and staying glued to their screens. But when the bombshell news of the casting switch hit the internet, fans fired shots left, right, and center—no one, not even Netflix, escaped the wrath. But some fans were starting to ease up until Liam Hemsworth’s latest pictures dropped, taking fans back to square one.

Many fans felt Netflix fumbled a golden opportunity to make The Witcher the smash hit it deserved to be with this one bold move. Others could not help but resurrect the ghosts of past grievances, accusing the show of disrespecting the source material.

Some fans even made up their minds, just from the picture, that they would not be tuning in for the new season. This had everyone questioning the future of the series—and Hemsworth, too. A few fans tried to soften the blow, saying it wouldn’t sting as much if Hemsworth had been Geralt from the start instead of the replacement. But in a matter of minutes, all hell broke loose.
