‘The Witcher’ Season 3 Finally Addresses Henry Cavill’s Beloved Bard Jaskier as Dandelion, but Who Is He? Learn From the Books
With The Witcher Season 3 Volume 1 landing on Netflix, there is a lot of excitement among fans for the second volume. Henry Cavill is getting ready to fight the last battle as Geralt of Rivia, with Yennefer and Jaskier on his side. And fans can agree that Lauren Hissirich kept her promise to stay true to the source material. One of the proofs being Jaskier addressed as Dandelion. However, why is Jaskier called Dandelion?
As it is known, Dandelion and Jaskier are the same characters in the Netflix Original played by Joey Batey. He is a close friend of Geralt of Rivia, a poet and an artist. However, in the original books, there is more to the character. Originally, in Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, the character’s name is actually Jaskier, which directly translates as Buttercup in English. Although it does not suit the bard’s personality. Therefore, when the books and games were translated into English, they changed it to Dandelion.

Symbolically, the Dandelion represents an active yet timid personality. It represents a person with a lot of fluctuating emotions. It means the Netflix series, by keeping the name Jaskier, represented the character better than both video games and English translates books. Nevertheless, there is yet some distance between adhering to the source material. It might create a little confusion for those who play the game and have read the books. So, the crux of the tale is that Dandelion and Jaskier are both the same person, and the show’s adaptation kept the original Polish name, Jaskier.

Because until now, we did not see him at Aretuza, there must be something cooking. Although he did not get an official invite, this is one reason for his absence. However, right before the lavish ball, we saw him kissing Radovid.
Not to spoil the fun, but his exploration of sexual partners might become a problem for his relationship with Geralt. While fans are eager to dive deep into their romance, there is a chance Jaskier might take Radovid’s side and betray Geralt and Ciri. Given Jaskier’s expressions (Burn Witcher Burn) in the previous season, and he has been already talking to Philippa Eilhart, it makes sense if she would succeed in pursuing Jaskier to turn his back on Geralt.
