The fantasy series has taken a gigantic leap, and it is truly developing into something magical. So, let us break down the ending of The Witcher Season 2.

The finale episode was not your usual ending, as it left us with a plethora of information and characters to speculate about. The coming together of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, the elves looking to serve justice, and more. It also introduced us to the much-awaited Nilfgaardian emperor Emhyr. So with no further ado, let’s dive right into episode 8 of the season, “Family.”

What is Ciri’s destiny?

We had a little idea about what Ciri’s powers were in season 1 of the Netflix Original, but we get a proper understanding of how powerful she is now. Played by the exquisite Freya Allan, Cirilla is of elven descent, meaning she has Elder Blood; which also means that she has access to her own magic and holds power to save or destroy The Continent.

While Nilfgaard continues their search, we also have Voleith Meir joining the quest to find Ciri. Voleith Meir aka The Deathless Mother even finds her and possesses the swallow; only to use her powers to unleash otherworldly monsters on the witchers at Kaer Morhen.

After Ciri gets herself out of her grasp, she along with Geralt and Yennefer portal to another world; a world from where Voleith Meir came from, and there they encounter The Wild Hunt. The omen of war called Ciri the “starry-eyed daughter of chaos” who is “theirs”.

We see Ciri’s Elder Blood playing yet another important part in the show. We see the elven queen Francesca Findabair fill up with hope, as she hears about Ciri and her bloodline; claiming that she will save them.

The Witcher Season 2 Ending: What is The Wild Hunt?

The Witcher Season 2 showed us the infamous The Wild Hunt, in one of Ciri’s visions. The habitants of The Continent believe The Wild Hunt to be a group of specters that move across the skies and are an omen of war. In reality, they are Aen Elle elves.

Wraiths of Mörhogg is another name people know this horde by. Their primary target is to invade other worlds through Gate of the Worlds and capture slaves. In the novels written by Andrzej Sapkowski, we see The Wild Hunt is interested in Ciri for her power, which appears to be the case in the show as well.

Who is Emperor Emhyr var Emreis, the White Flame?

The Witcher Season 2 ended with the introduction of a much-awaited character, Emhyr var Emreis. The emperor of Nilfgaard and the White flame, Emyhr, appeared for the first time, as previously we only heard about him, but never knew who he was. It is revealed that he is, in fact, Ciri’s father who we thought to be dead along with her mother Pavetta.

This revelation explains why the Nilfgaardian empire is so hellbent on finding Ciri; it also explains how the empire already knew about Ciri’s abilities even before she herself knew about them.

In the books, Emhyr is a very ruthless ruler and is known for his aggressive behavior. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the first thing we get to hear from his mouth is that he ordered the murder of an elven child. He also orders to take Fringilla and Cahir away from him, as he believes they will provide no further help to his and his empire’s mission.

We honestly can not wait to see the new season of The Witcher, as we already know it will feature Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri as a beautiful, but powerful family.

You can stream The Witcher Season 2 on Netflix now.
