Netflix is cruising on a streaming high of its own. The media company recently tasted big-time success with its widely appreciated live-action adaptation of One Piece. As of now, it is also basking under a similar fame thanks to its latest anime adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comics with Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off. Amid the spurt of these new franchises turning the wheels ahead, one of its past favorites looks to be losing steam. Ever since lead, Henry Cavill walked out the door, The Witcher has slumped in its viewership. On the face of such an outlook, is the original creator, Andrzej Sapkowski, coming in with fresh new content.

The renowned author laid forth his indelible credibility as his books started one of the most riveting fantasy worlds of modern content viewership and streaming.

The 75-year-old Polish author had, a few months down the line, confirmed working on an upcoming new book. In a fresh round of talks, he has stuck more or less to it as new Witcherverse content may finally hit the shelves by late 2024 or early 2025. While the author did not provide any additional details on his work, it could either be a sequel or a prequel to the current Netflix storyline. Furthermore, it will also mark more than a decade since he returned with a publication, with his last being Season of Storms in 2013.

Netflix centered The Witcher on Sapkowski’s novels from the eight-book series of the same name. Additionally, for the most part of its initial days, it stuck to abiding lore accuracy until it did not by the end of the third season. The results of such a move reflected massive drops in viewership and sharp criticisms. While the third season was based on the author’s novel, Time of Contempt, the streamer deviated in many sub-plots and changes, which brought about an unprecedented decline.

Faced with a barrage of scathing reviews, Netflix may finally be taking its time to streamline The Witcher series. In order to establish a well-rounded lore, an animated spin-off, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, is among the first to release in 2024. The show will fit in somewhere between the events of season one of the main storyline. Based on Sapkoswki’s short story, A Little Sacrifice, the spin-off will have Geralt meet a new character and resolve a conflict.

The streaming giant previewed bits of it as part of its recent Geeked Week lineup. However, the voice for Geralt will neither be of Henry Cavill nor his successor, Liam Hemsworth. Meanwhile, the main series has its issues to fix along with having Hemsworth step into the fan-favorite Cavill’s shoes. Regardless, Netflix has high hopes pinned on its spin-offs that may help bridge the gap in fans’ hearts.
