‘The Ultimatum’ Season 2 Will Feature a Mostly-Female Cast in a Very Different Format, Executive Producer Chris Coelen Reveals Intriguing Details

Netflix knew what it was doing when it renewed The Ultimatum for a season 2 even before the show dropped. But the exciting news is that the second season will have an all-queer cast. The mostly-female cast will have the opportunity to swap partners and figure out their future.

In the show, six couples arrive to enter a trial marriage with other partners. The social experiment allows them to figure out whether their original partner is the One. Or if they can should away from the relationship.

The basic premise will remain the same for The Ultimatum season 2.

“We allow them to choose another partner that they think has qualities of someone that they would want to potentially marry. And get an opportunity to live out a trial marriage with that person. They have two trial marriages: one with the person they choose and one with their partner that they come in with,” explained Chris.

The participants of The Ultimatum season 2 may have some takeaways from the experiment

Chris Coelen, the executive producer of the show is very “proud” of the show because it is based on “relatable conversation”.

What’s fascinating is when you actually look at the reasons that people give for not being ready, there are a multitude of reasons — ‘I come from a family background of bad relationships. I don’t want to repeat my past’ or ‘I’m not ready, I’m too young’ or ‘I need to be financially stable.’ There may be some validity to some of those reasons. But the real reason is that they’re not sure that they want to marry this person that they’re with. Most of those things that they say are our excuses, and it’s very common,” he opined. And indeed many participants, particularly Rae Williams, had a meaningful journey.

“In its current form, I think it’s difficult because of the way that everything is structured,” lamented Chris. Although the structure of the show is limiting, he does promise to bring more representation to the show.

Season 2 is going to be stupid and will likely get canceled.
