The Barbie actor requested Meryl to compliment his mother on her hairstyle to make her night better. Joining in on his plans, the actress went up to his mother and said, “I was going to do a beehive and I wish I had…” 

According to him, Donna’s friend suggested she style a beehive hairstyle for the event, claiming that it was in fashion. It was the opposite, since natural hair was the trend then. But sitting behind her was The Mummy actress Rachel Weisz, who struggled to see through the big beehive hair, which led to Gosling’s mother to sink into her chair.
