The Rats will be the second live-action adaptation spin-off following The Witcher: Blood Origin, which started production way earlier. However, after shooting in South Africa, the production wrapped the filming this summer. As Redanian Intelligence reported, the spin-off might drop in 2024 despite Netflix’s silence regarding its official release date. The series is already in the post-production phase, which should not take much time.
Notably, despite the post-production to conclude its work, it is up to the American OTT platform to see where the release of The Rats would fit amidst the busy schedule. The upcoming spin-off is a tale of 6 teenagers whose survival methods are extremely intense. The likes of Ben Radcliffe, Christelle Elwin, Juliette Alexandra, Aggy K. Adams, Fabian McCallum, and more are going to unveil the exciting story.
Dolph Lundgren is also going to be a part of the spin-off as Brehen. Given the intensity of the story in the original book, fans expected the spin-off to be a long series. However, following the Blood Origin snub, Netflix has yet to reveal the structure of The Rats. The spin-off might tone down the characters’ controversial actions from the books as well.

As the book depicts, the Rats are a group of teenagers who were the victims of Nilfgaard’s war. The traumatic experiences destroyed their empathy, leaving them no choice but to run around, steal, and kill as they wanted. However, the way The Witcher 3 introduced them, it seems the spin-off might intensify them a little less. Moreover, Ciri introducing herself as mysterious Falka at the end also added a lot more excitement to the entire Rats connection.
The leader of their group is Giselher, with other members like Mistle, Iskra, Kayleigh, Reef, Asse, and now Ciri. In the book, the two of them sexually assaulted Cirilla, which made the readers hate them even more. They also corrupt Cirilla’s morals and leave a toxic influence on her. Although The Witcher‘s upcoming seasons will feature them, the spin-off will dive deep into their roots, hopefully in 2024 only.
