A new report from Deadline reveals that The Picture of Dorian Gray is being adapted into a TV series titled The Grays. Currently, in development for Netflix, the series is reportedly produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Written by Katie Rose Rogers, The Grays offers a contemporary twist on Oscar Wilde's classic, exploring the obsession with eternal youth within the context of the “modern beauty industry.”
In a Netflix-style twist on the classic gothic novel, the series will focus on siblings Basil and Dorian Gray. In the original story, Basil is Dorian’s artist friend. The project’s executive producers include siblings Katie Rose Rogers, Robbie Rogers, and Rina Mimoun, with Mimoun also serving as showrunner. Lee Toland Krieger is set to direct, while Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman from Berlanti Productions are also on board as executive producers.
As Netflix embraces a modernized take on the classic 1891 novel in television format, the streamer is also pulling out all the stops to spotlight fresh content in the movie slate, including the upcoming adaptation of Millie Bobby Brown’s Nineteen Steps.

According to a recent Deadline report, Millie Bobby Brown is developing a film adaptation of her debut novel, Nineteen Steps, for Netflix. The WWII novel, co-written by the Stranger Things star and Kathleen McGurl and published in 2023, quickly became a bestseller on both the New York Times and Sunday Times lists. Brown is reportedly producing the film under her PCMA banner and is also expected to star in it. The screenplay will be written by four-time Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten.
While not everyone is thrilled about Brown teaming up with Netflix once again, the streamer, which has been her home base, has the potential to turn the movie into a major blockbuster. The book, inspired by her grandmother's experiences, follows Nellie Morris, an 18-year-old girl living in the Bethnal Green neighborhood of East London during WWII. With Netflix focusing on both classic and contemporary stories, it is only a matter of time before fans are treated to these masterpieces.
