The ‘One Piece’ Actor with an Insatiable Character Faces a Sweet Challenge
One of the most endearing things about the One Piece anime is the Straw Hats crew’s many eccentricities. Among their many bizarre characteristics is the lead character, Monkey D. Luffy’s voracious appetite. Just like his character in the Eiichiro Oda-created manga, Luffy munched down on many edible and inedible things in Netflix’s recently dropped live-action rendition of the anime. So, naturally, fans assume that Iñaki Godoy, who plays the young pirate, is just as much of a foodie as he claims.
But when the Mexican actor sat down with other crew members for a promotion, he proved himself and his fans wrong. Because among the cast, he was the one who struggled to eat a particular type of candy the most.

In a recent post from Netflix’s official One Piece X page, the cast sits down to take on a unique challenge. It entailed taste-testing a batch of spicy candies that got progressively spicier. As the level of spice increased, the actors’ faces got increasingly animated. But Iñaki Godoy’s verbal and physical struggle made it evident that his was the most painful experience of all.
Earlier when the cast sat down for an interview, they had a tough time picking their favorite One Piece characters. But this session posed an even more formidable challenge for the young cast. And the anime-like animations which were added to the clip made the event all the more hilarious.
Those who think that the guy who portrays Luffy failing the challenge was terrible, know that this was not the worst part of all. Not only did Godoy let down Monkey D. Luffy’s legacy, but he also put his foot in his mouth while doing so.

Even before the challenge began, Godoy claimed that his Mexican roots would give him a cultural advantage in handling the spiced candy. So, when he miserably failed to do so, let alone keep a straight face, his embarrassment knew no bounds. On the other hand, Emily Rudd who plays Nami, handled the spice like a champ!
The Hunters actress, who once claimed to be born for her One Piece part, proved that she is just as much a badass as her character. Meanwhile, Taz Skyler, who plays Sanji and Jacob Gibson, who plays Usopp, did a reasonably OK job. Especially when compared to Godoy’s amusing struggles!
