The centuries old team of guards stands dedicated to their pleading till today, and Netflix is right by their side in distributing their agenda like ever before. With news of its latest installment, The Old Guard 2, after The Old Gard, set to be out and about, it is only fair to have oneself educated to take one's own oath to humanity's protection alongside these immortal mercenaries.  

With fantastical abilities kept under wraps, whiffs of their scents being left in the air for the regular residents of the planet are enough for them to stay intrigued.

Flecked with the action essentials of brutal combat and grotesque demises to keep the palette fresh, The Old Guard, the original film to the now-growing franchise of the comic series of the same name, had established a fantastical twist to the story as well. Having the audiences hooked on the beings that do not perish no matter how mercilessly battered, but, an unexpected possibility that looms over them being the nail-biting plot turn of the entire picture's panning. It is these very points of interest that have made possible the flick's comeback set for July 2, 2025, upon massive demand. 

With the first installment having set a benchmark as one of the most expensive film of 2020, it is only a requirement that the follow-up has to fulfill as an essential to the film's main premise.

The Old Guard, with its initial release, had established the world of the immortals and their drive to fight for it and protect its residents, just as they had been doing for centuries, through a new addition, Nile, to their team. With a thorough introduction well out of the way, the second installation of the flick has been revealed to focus on a powerful new enemy threatening humanity and their existence. Also, keeping in mind the unresolved ending of the first film, including Booker’s exile and Quynh’s mysterious return, the two storylines will play a key role in the unfolding of the second story.

A story this layered and in need of physical fluidity required for good translation from an exceptional visual material, a cast no short of stellar is the only answer. 

With the representatives remaining largely the same, the original cast has been preserved for the second part of the story, which includes: Charlize Theron, the poster-face, who has also appeared as a red head in another recent fantasy as of late; as Andy, KiKi Layne as Nile, Marwan Kenzari and Luca Marinelli as Joe and Nicky, Matthias Schoenaerts as Booker, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Copley, and Veronica Ngô with an expanded role as Quynh. However, there are also new additions to the lineup, comprising Uma Thurman and Henry Golding, whose roles are yet to be disclosed. 

Persisting through the tests of time, The Old Guard and its immortal soldiers have yet to bow their heads in terms of production misses, and with years added, it is only expected to get better. 

Succeeding Gina Prince-Bythewood, Victoria Mahoney directs the sequel, bringing her unique vision to the franchise. Known for her work on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Yelling to the Sky, Mahoney aims to deliver bold action sequences and fresh storytelling. The screenplay is co-written by Greg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker, continuing the adaptation of Rucka’s graphic novels of the same name. 

The Old Guard, and its sequel The Old Guard 2, blends intense action, compelling fantasy elements, and emotional depth to create a unique cinematic experience. Its exploration of immortality, loyalty, and sacrifice resonates with audiences while delivering thrilling combat sequences. With the sequel set to expand the story and introduce new characters, the audience is compelled to anticipate even greater stakes and deeper storytelling, and the franchise continues to make its mark on the action-fantasy genre with its promise of another gripping chapter.
