When Schwarzenegger joined the cast of the film, he was a little too big to play the character. However, the newcomer knew it was his ticket to Hollywood. Therefore, he did everything necessary for his physical training and voice training as well. On the one hand, the True Lies actor was preparing for this role, while on the other hand, there were issues regarding the rights of the flick, per Giant Freaking Robot.

Before the film took shape, the rights were with Edward R. Pressman and Edward Summer in 1975. Two years later, they hired the former bodybuilder. Because of the lack of capital, Pressman and Summer sold the rights to Dino De Laurentiis and his daughter Raffaella in 1979. Now, the new producers had the chance and rights to recast the lead. But they recognized the talent of the young actor and kept him.
