After becoming the most-watched show on Netflix two years ago, The Night Agent is back. Just two days after the second season dropped, it is already lounging at the top spot on Netflix’s Top 10 TV Chart. The Night Agent creator Shawn Ryan recently shared some exciting updates about Season 3, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. While he had already told Tudum last October that the third installment was on the way with the same cast, this time, he zoomed in on the Season 2 finale, which set the stage for the third part. He explained that in the final scene between Monroe and Hagan, the latter’s line signals a reassertion of his power with the man helping him win the presidency.

I think it portends great conflict in season three that Peter will find himself in the middle of,” teased Ryan. Whenever a series rises to the top of Netflix’s charts, that too as fast as The Night Agent did, it is often backed by a star-studded cast or a well-known director. But that was not the case for the Gabriel Basso starrer. Within a month of its debut on Netflix in 2023, The Night Agent had already surpassed many streaming giants, including the Henry Cavill starrer The Witcher. However, it was not the only show it beat in the viewership race.

Compared to many other shows filled with big names, The Night Agent took off on Netflix by simply hitting the right notes in the right way.

The Night Agent’s future on Netflix is looking pretty good

The Night Agent’s viewership numbers on Netflix caught a lot of people off guard—especially when considering the other, bigger-budget, A-list star-studded shows that just could not make an impact on the platform. The now-cancelled KAOS is a big example of this. KAOS was canceled just a few weeks after its debut on August 29 because it did not hit the viewership numbers Netflix was hoping for.

Given how popular The Night Agent Season 1 became, it seems pretty likely Season 2 will see a repeat of that success. Even though it hass been almost two years since the first season came out, the buzz from the debut episodes of Season 2 already shows that people are just as excited as ever. But, worse comes to worst, even if it does not quite live up to the first season, Shawn Ryan’s show still has a better shot than a lot of other shows out there on Netflix, and that is saying something.
