The race of climbing the top of a streaming service is no less exciting and nerve-racking than that of running on a real race track. The numbers keep changing every moment and one move can result in a dark horse emerging from the contenders. For the OTT Mogul, Netflix, the dark horse came in the form of The Night Agent. Devoid of any big movie stars and no remarkable promotions, the movie instantly became a hit as it was released on Netflix on the 23rd of March. The streaming giant constantly blesses its subscribers with new and refreshing content. And to make a mark in such a high-paced competition is definitely remarkable.

The Night Agent did not just make it to the high ranks in Netflix’s charts. But it also left behind the flagship Netflix series such as The Witcher, Stranger Things, and Lucifer. Within weeks of its release, the series has managed to amass a huge fan following that is only growing bigger with each passing minute.

The Nigh Agent emerges dark horse on Netflix’s Top 10 List

Directed by Shawn Ryan, the series had little to no hoo-ha surrounding it before the premiere. It has managed to get to the top solely through its spectacular storyline and performances. According to Comicbook, the series was viewed for 605 million hours in less than a month. Netflix records the duration for which a series has been watched in 28 days in order to update its Top 10 list.

The Night Agent did the unexpected, as it left behind some of the most well-known shows on Netflix. Despite not having a star-studded cast, it ranked above Henry Cavill‘s The Witcher in the sixth position.

The series consists of ten episodes and, to the delight of fans, has already been renewed for a second season.

It is yet to overtake Bridgerton. But looking at the rankings on Netflix’s Top 10, it is only a matter of time before the series jumps to become a part of the top five.

Why is the Shawn Ryan series so popular?

When a series climbs to the top of Netflix’s charts so quickly, it is either backed by a star-studded cast or a renowned director. That did not seem to be the case for The Night Agent.

The series wins solely by incorporating the right elements, such as thrill, action, and patriotism into its storyline. And the cast, although not well known, was absolutely dedicated to their roles. The trope that follows a lone hero to save the country from an impending threat is a tried and tested one. And The Night Agent uses it to become one of the most trending shows of this season.
