Since season 4 of Stranger Things wrapped up with that nail-biting climax, there were reports of spin-offs and prequels in the works. The team behind the project kept mum over it only sharing tidbits here and there to tantalize the fans. And now a prequel is officially revealed. However, it isn’t a TV show but a stage play. The stage play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow will take place at the Phoenix theater in London and tickets are already on sale!

Stranger Things on Stage shared a reel showcasing a silhouette that appears trapped in the terrifying Creel House. As the screen zooms out we see a drop of blood wash over the white Creel House to turn it red. And in the next cut, the clips show the details of the upcoming stage play in London. The first stage performance will take place on November 17, 2023. Tickets range from €20 to €185, depending on various seating sections in the theater. You can choose from Orchestra stalls to Dress Circle or even the Grand Circle.

The Duffer Brothers executive produced the show while Kate Trefry wrote the stage play. Tony award winner Stephen Daldry directs the play.

The prequel will take us back to Hawkins in 1959. Fans will meet the teenage versions of Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado, and fan-favorite, Bob Newby. In the 50s, Hopper is concerned about his car, Joyce wants to escape the town while Newby wants to make his radio station a hit. But then Henry Creel arrives with family in the town casting a shadow over Hawkins. The stage play will also introduce Newby’s sister.

Stranger Things stage play was not a part of the Duffer Brothers’ plans

The brothers were considering offshoots until Daldry approached them. The director was apparently a huge fan of the sci-fi show. He pitched them the idea of a new story set on the stage. And the brothers loved the opportunity to cover new grounds.

The prequel is meant to go deeper into darker territories surrounding the Creels. But it also promises fun times with the teenage characters. It is more or less a standalone story, only meant for the stage. Hence the brothers are not going to produce it for TV.
